How It All Began

It was back in 2011 when we were on a road trip from Johannesburg to Cape Town and failing to find a guide to off-the-beaten-track places in South Africa, that the seed was first planted.

On a 7-week road trip around Namibia the following year, we had the same problem with frustrating times staying in ‘ok’ places when around the corner was a real gem, that we had no way of knowing about it. So the seed started growing…

Not the usual run-of-the-mill

In 2014 when we made the move to the quaint village of Prince Albert in the Karoo, we found time to seriously start planning our website – a guide to off-the-beaten-track places for like-minded travellers. And Hedonist-hippy travels was born.

We hope some of the destinations resonate with you and that you’ll use this website regularly as a guide for future journeys on the roads less travelled.

It is, and always will be, a work in progress! The guide will grow organically as we explore, so keep an eye out for new destinations added to discover and enjoy for yourselves!
