Botrivier
Blink and you’ll miss it!
Botrivier is a hamlet situated at the bottom of the Houw Hoek Pass and within easy travelling distance to Hermanus. It is surrounded by vineyards and the Houw Hoek mountains and offers tranquility and a place away from it all.
It’s quaint and sleepy on the surface, but is situated in the first bio diversity and wine route in the world! There are 14 different wineries in a 10km radius and their credo is “wine for lovers of the road less travelled”.
There is hiking, biking, and abundant bird watching as well as the ocean being close by for water activities. Bands will often set up on the stoep of the Hotel but mostly there is not a vibrant night life on offer and if that’s what you’re after this is not the place for you!

To stay:
The Botrivier Hotel – comfortable ensuite rooms in a beautiful old building. Bar and restaurant and stoep overlooking the “town square” for endless hours of people watching.
To visit:
The Shuntin’ Shed – local bar and eatery set on the side of the station. Great pizzas, ribs and Sunday lunches. TV for sports fanatics.
The wine route – especially Luddite who make fabulous Shiraz (https://hedonisthippy.com/wine-tasting-in-bot-rivier-2/). It’s a very scenic drive from one wine farm to the next and worth it for the produce on offer!
A peaceful stop over
Whether you stay for a night or two, or just stop off en route to somewhere else, this hamlet cannot fail to charm you with its simplicity. Worth putting real life on hold for a day or two and just chillin’ in this characterful place!
