George The Fat Fish courtyard

The Fat Fish – George

I love it when you discover a great restaurant that you weren’t expecting! And happily, this is just what happened on our last visit to George when we found The Fat Fish.

The day was sunny and warm so we seated ourselves under an umbrella, close to the water feature, where we were able to people watch undisturbed! Inside there is a lovely bar and several fire places which will make winter dining a treat!

The menu is varied and interesting, printed as a newspaper, offering tapas, sushi and of course, as the name would suggest, a selection of great sounding fish dishes. There are steak and veggie options too.

We opted for tapas to share and each one of them was delicious as were the salmon roses that we couldn’t pass up. Likewise the decadent desserts that we somehow managed to squeeze in.

Grappa would have just finished the meal off nicely (to aid digestion you understand), but alas we were driving – there will be a next time… The wine list includes a selection of different and boutique wines which is always a bonus!

I seriously recommend that if you’re staying in George or just passing through make this a destination for lunch or dinner – you won’t be disappointed. It’s advisable to book for the evening but at lunchtime it appears, certainly during the week anyway, that it’s not necessary.

Life is full of surprises and this was one of the best kind!
