Prince Albert Showroom eclectic place to visit

Prince Albert’s Unique Showroom

Who would have believed in a town the size of Prince Albert that it would boast a world-class theatre/movie showroom? But much to the appreciation of locals (and visitors) it does.

Renovated from the old petrol station – an art deco building – and opened in November 2012 it is a real draw card for visitors to the town. It can be found in Church Street – the main through road and when lit up at night is unmissable.

An Alternative Night Out

inside the theatre

Us lucky locals get to watch a movie every Thursday night – usually an art one and pretty current at that. Sometimes I don’t know how they manage to show the films so quickly after they leave the circuit and us being in the middle of nowhere to boot!

Saturday morning is children’s movie time although a lot of us so called “grown ups” can also be found watching our favourite animated films along with the kids and feasting on popcorn!

Most weekends there’s a live show – predominantly musicians, covering all musical genres and the occasional comedian also comes to visit.

We are regular attendees of The Showroom – most weeks to the movies and weekends to any blues/rock offerings that happen our way. The performers are always blown away by the standard of the place – it’s probably the last thing they expect in such a small dorp.

A Hard Act To Follow

the twinkly foyer

The lighting and sound is world-class, the seats luxurious and the changing rooms plush. The bar is made up of twinkly mirror glass and chandeliers illuminate the foyer. Standing at one of the chrome tables, glass of bubbles in hand, it’s a great place to people watch before going into the theatre itself!

So, when planning a trip to Prince Albert try and stay a night when there is something on at The Showroom – you can view what’s coming up and book online at www.showroomtheatre.co.za.

It’s a venue you’ll have to travel far and wide to beat but so worth the visit. I’m sure there’s many a place with theatre envy!
